Renovations Continue On Two Wetlands In The Region

August 04, 2020

(Ruthven)– Renovations continue of two bodies of water in the area.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says water levels at Dan Green Slough and Burr Oak Lake have been drawn down for the rest of the summer to eliminate rough fish and reestablish emergent vegetation.

Rob Patterson, a wildlife biologist with the DNR, says the two systems were originally renovated around 2010, but he says those efforts were setback by high water in 2018 and 2019.

Patterson says the low water levels at Dan Green Slough and Burr Oak Lake will remain into the fall. He’s encouraging hunters to consider alternatives such as nearby Trumbull Lake, Virgin Lake or Barringer Slough.
