New Proclamation Signed Friday By Gov. Kim Reynolds Again Impacts Deadlines For Property Taxes, Motor Vehicle Registrations & Driver’s Licenses

(Spirit Lake)– A new Disaster Emergency proclamation signed Friday by Governor Kim Reynolds further extends the deadline in which to pay property taxes without penalty. The new deadline is Friday, July 31st. The sections related to driving with expired licenses was extended through August 23rd . However, those related to motor vehicle renewals and title transfers and temporary plates were NOT extended and expired effective at midnight Saturday.

Dickinson County Treasurer Kris Rowley is reminding those who’s vehicle registrations expired in the months of January, 2020 through July 31st, 2020 that they must get renewals taken care of by August 31st. Those who purchased a vehicle between February 13th and March 15th, 2020 need to get their vehicle transferred as soon as possible to avoid penalties. Rowley says those who purchased a vehicle between March 16th, 2020 and July 25th, 2020 must apply for title and registration by August 24th to avoid penalties.

And when it comes to driver’s licenses, Rowley says those that expired beginning January 16th and during the proclamation have their driving privileges extended through August 23rd. She reminds everyone the Dickinson County Driver’s License Station is open by appointment only.
