(Spencer)– There won’t be a Clay County Fair this year but thanks to two events in August you’ll still be able to get your fix of Fair food. Andrea Wiesenmeyer, Marketing and Partnership Director tells KUOO news one of the events, “Takeout Tuesdays”, will be held August 4th, 11th and 18th at the Clay County Fairgrounds…
“So starting Tuesday, August 4th we’re going to start with Hy-Noon Kiwanis, we’ve got Spencer Jaycees, we’ve got Spencer Daybreakers Kiwanis, and they’re all going to have their stands open on different Tuesdays so that we can help them recoup some of the funds that they’re not making at the fair to go to things like scholarships, and the Jaycees Tree of Joy and bike helmets at Upper Des Moines.”
Wiesenmeyer says the other event has been dubbed “Fair Food To Go”. She says that will be held Friday, August 7th and Saturday, August 8th…
“When we started talking about fair food people immediately were like, you know I need my mini donut, I need my corndog, I can’t go without my cheese curds this year and so we brought in mostly our local and area vendors who are going to do two days from 11:00 to 7:00 each day where they’re going to serve a whole bunch of those fair foods and delights on a stick because you can’t do without.”
Complete menus and a listing of vendors can be found at claycountyfair.com as well as the fair’s social media pages.
Wiesenmeyer says a portion of the proceeds from both events will go to the Clay County Fair…
“So obviously without a fair we also are without about 75 percent of our income for the year and so a portion of each of these sales will also go to help us from an operating standpoint.”
Admission onto the Clay County Fairgrounds for the events will be free. Those attending are asked to use the north entrance off of West 18th Street. Restrooms and seating will not be available and social distancing guidelines will be in effect.
