An Old Scam Is Once Again Making The Rounds In The Region

July 24, 2020

(Estherville)– An old scam is once again making the rounds.

Police in Estherville say they’ve had reports in recent days from residents who have received calls stating they have reportedly won prize money from Publisher’s Clearinghouse. In order to claim the money, you are asked to provide personal information. Officials again warn it’s nothing but a scam, noting that Publisher’s Clearinghouse will never call you asking about your personal or banking information.

Officials also remind everyone that any time you get communication from someone out of the blue asking you to send them gift cards or money, that it is also a scam. They say that if for some reason you have a question over the legitimacy of such phone calls or communication, that you should contact a family member, your bank, and/or law enforcement before acting on it.
