Iowa D.O.T Maintenance Worker Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle

July 21, 2020

(Boyden)– An Iowa Department of Transportation maintenance worker has died after being struck by a vehicle in a construction zone in Sioux county.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 94-year-old William Plantage of Sheldon was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox westbound on Highway 18 about a mile and-a-half west of Boyden. Authorities say an employee of the Iowa Department of Transportation, 64-year-old Lynn Roder of Ashton, was standing in the westbound lane with a traffic sign signaling for westbound traffic to stop or slow ahead of a road construction area. Deputies say the vehicle driven by Plantage struck Roder.

Roder was taken by ambulance to a Sheldon hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained.

The Iowa State Patrol is assisting in the ongoing investigation into the collision which took place shortly after 9:00 am this (Tuesday) morning.
