(Storm Lake)– A Storm Lake man has received a deferred judgement in an insurance fraud case.
The judgement against 25-year-old Nathan Tun was recently handed down in Buena Vista County District Court.
Officials say it stems from an investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau that began back in June, 2019. They say Tun conspired with two individuals to take his vehicle to Texas or Mexico in order the conceal the vehicle’s location. After the vehicle was taken, Tun falsely reported to his insurer that his vehicle was stolen and collected over $17,000 in insurance proceeds.
Tun was placed on probation for three years and was ordered to pay a civil penalty of $750 along with restitution of a little more than $17,000.
The Storm Lake Police Department assisted in the investigation.
