(Spencer)– One person was injured Monday in a collision involving two pickups at the intersection of 11th Avenue Southwest, or Highway 71, and 25th Street Southwest in Spencer.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says Richard Schwarz of Spencer was driving a 2015 Ford F-150 and had stopped at a stop sign on 25th Street southwest and was waiting for traffic to clear on the highway. Authorities say Nyle Dotson of Spencer was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram northbound on Highway 71 and was following another vehicle which was slowing to turn onto 25th Street Southwest. Deputies say Dotson didn’t realize the vehicle was slowing and went around it on the right shoulder of the roadway. Authorities say Dotson avoided colliding with the vehicle that was turning but instead wound up colliding with the pickup driven by Schwarz. The impact caused the pickup driven by Schwarz to roll…coming to rest on its driver’s side.
Schwarz had to be removed from the vehicle by the Spencer Fire Department. Authorities say he sustained minor injuries but apparently wasn’t taken to the hospital.
Dotson was cited for failure to stop in an assured, clear distance.
Disabling damage was reported to both vehicles.
