(Spirit Lake)– The green waste site serving residents in the cities of Spirit Lake and Orleans will open for the season this weekend, but there will be some conditions attached due to COVID-19.
The site in Orleans will open this Saturday, May 2nd.
Hours will be Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Sundays from 1:00 until 5:00 pm; and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 until 7:00 pm.
The site is available for use ONLY by those who reside in the city limits of Spirit Lake and Orleans.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, those bringing yard waste to the site should wear masks. They should also empty their yard waste promptly and leave as soon as it is emptied.
Prior to entering the site, residents will need to be able to identify their identity and physical address with their driver’s license and should also bring a copy of their water bill to assist in that process.
Officials say gates to the facility will NOT open early and that they appreciate the cooperation of residents not arriving early to avoid traffic backups on 140th Street.
A complete set of rules for the site can be seen at the city of Spirit Lake’s website.
