Minnesota Schools To Remain Closed The Rest Of The School Year

April 23, 2020

(MINNEAPOLIS, MN.) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced this afternoon that he was ordering schools to remain closed through the remainder of the school year.

Walz, who is a former teacher, says it is a “heartbreaking decision”, but for the health and safety of Minnesotans, distance learning through this year is necessary. Walz offered some comments for the class of 2020…Walz03

“You will forever be the class of 2020. You will not be defined by staying home and missing proms and missing graduations. You will be defined by understanding how interconnected our world is and what it means to come together to try and solve hard problems. I would venture to say that the closeness of the classes of 2020 will be much closer than any other that came before. This ties you together in a way that has not been ever seen and I just want you to know that these decisions being made, they break our heart.”

Walz also outlined his approach for gradually loosening restrictions on Minnesota businesses over time. He says his decision will allow up to 100,000 Minnesotans to return to work in industrial, manufacturing and office settings next Monday.
