(Spencer)– A reminder the month of April is National Safe Digging Month. Amanda Gloyd of Spencer Municipal Utilities says this is an appropriate time for the annual observance with many people starting up construction projects for the season…
“Whether you’re planting trees or shrubs, installing a fence, building a patio, addition, deck, garage, outdoor shed, maybe a new driveway, installing a septic system or water drainage system, terracing or landscaping, all of those types of projects do require you to contact Iowa One Call. And then what will happen is locators will come out and locate the underground utilities in that area, so it’s really important to mark out that area in white before they come. And then there will be flags and paint that will let you know what’s in that area.”
Gloyd says if you plan on doing any digging you need to call 811. You can also visit Iowa One Call-dot-com.
In addition, Gloyd says this week is also “Work Zone Safety Week”…
“Of course work zones, as well as digging projects, all that stuff is still going on right now so we just want to remind everyone that when you do see a work zone out in our community, remember to slow down, put away distractions and pay attention.”
Gloyd says it’s also very important to give those workers plenty of room.
