June 2nd Primary Election Will Have Just One Polling Site In Dickinson County; Residents Being Urged To Vote By Mail If Possible

April 21, 2020

(Spirit Lake)– Some more details are being released into the upcoming June 2nd Primary Election and how the process is going to work with concerns over COVID-19.

Jordan Moyer oversees elections at the Dickinson County Auditor’s Office. She tells KUOO news there will be just one polling site in the county for those who wish to vote in person either on election day or absentee. She says that will be the former Paul’s Body Shop building just south of the courthouse at 909 19th Street in Spirit Lake…Primary Polling Site01

“And along with that absentee voting starts May 4th which will also be held at the same location. And with that we’re strongly recommending voters to vote by mail since there is no end date to the current situation going on. You can print out an application request form on our website or you can call our office at 712-336-3356 and request one to be mailed to you.”

Moyer adds some additional precautions will be put in place at the polling site…Primary Polling Site02

“We are actually having masks made for our election workers and we’ll have gloves. The Secretary of State’s Office has received some funding so we did a survey to receive 4 500 palm hand sanitizers so we’ll have that at each location as well.”

Moyer reminds those voting by mail their ballots must be postmarked on or before June 1st for being returned and must be received in the County Auditor’s Office by June 8th in order to be counted.

The polling site election day will be open from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm. It will be open for absentee voting from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm.

Moyer reminds voters the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office will be mailing out requests for absentee ballots in the mail within the next week or so. She says if you don’t get one by May 4th you can print one off at the Auditor’s website.
