(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Public Health today (Sunday) is reporting an additional 389 positive cases of COVID-19. That brings the state’s total number of cases since the pandemic began to 2,902.
The agency says there have been an additional 1,214 negative tests for a total of 21,648 negative tests to date, which includes reporting by the State Hygienic Lab and other labs.
The department reported one additional death today (Sunday). It was in Muscatine county.
198 Iowans are currently hospitalized with the virus. 1,171 have recovered so far.
Officials say 261, or 67% of the 389 new cases reported today (Sunday) can be attributed to surveillance testing at meat processing facilities. More than 500 of those tests involved Tyson employees with more than 500 National Beef Employees also being tested, for a total of 84 positive and 177 positive cases, respectively.
