(Sioux Falls)-A powerful winter storm is taking aim at the region, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Winter Storm Watch which will be in effect from Sunday at 7 a.m. through Monday at 7 a.m. for much of Northwestern Iowa and Southwestern Minnesota. Forecasters say a strong weather system is expected to bring snow, strong north winds, and much colder temperatures starting early on Sunday. 4 to 7 inches of snow are possible, with very strong northerly winds which will create winter travel conditions and reduced visibility into Monday morning. Travel could be very difficult and dangerous with whiteout conditions expected.
Mixed precipitation is expected to begin Saturday evening and roads could become icy overnight. Stay tuned to the latest forecast.
