Minnesota Governor Tim Walz extends Stay-at-Home Order through May 4

April 08, 2020

(St. Paul, MN)-Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has extended the Stay-at-home order through May 4th.

Walz announced the extension from the State Emergency Operation Center Wednesday afternoon:

“We’re going to continue to buy time. I’m going to extend today the order until May 4th from the April 10. We will then align the public accommodation order, that’s the issue on bars and restaurants and amusement activities from May 1st to May 4th. This will give us the time necessary to build that prevention and treatment capacity.”

Walz says that they will continue to review businesses and activities in the state that may be allowed to open:

“If it were safe, and we could protect people, we would start every business tomorrow. We’re not certain that’s the case, but we do think that there many out there, mowing of the golf courses being one of those, that fit social distancing, that make sense, can get things going. What we want to see is with the Health Department, with DEED, with Labor and Industry. But what’s different with this order is there’s a mechanism in there to make that happen much more orderly, strategically and geared toward an end.”

Minnesota saw an increase of 85 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the state total to 1,154. The number of deaths in the state also increased from 34 to 39.
