(Sioux City)– A Guatemala man who had been living recently in Rock Valley has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison for illegally reentering the U.S.
63-year-old Rigoberto Corado-Hernandez was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Sioux City. He pled guilty to the charge in May of this year.
Federal prosecutors say Corado-Hernandez had been previously removed from the U.S twice before and was convicted in 2024 in Sioux county of domestic abuse assault, 1st offense, for trying to stab his nephew with a knife. He was located by immigration officials in the Sioux county jail on January 13th of this year where he was being held on a probation violation stemming from the 2024 sentence. While in custody, officials determined Corado-Hernandez was a citizen of Guatemala and had no legal status to be in the U.S., and that he had previously been deported from the U.S to Guatemala.
He’s being held in the custody of federal authorities pending transport to a federal prison.
