Spencer Parks Department and SYBSA announce closure of Fields & Batting Cages due to COVID-19 concerns

April 08, 2020

The Spencer Youth Baseball and Softball Association (SYBSA) and the City of Spencer Parks Department have announced that in an effort to reduce social gatherings and decrease the spread of COVID-19, the Pedersen Park softball and baseball fields, batting cages, and Cardinal Field are closed until further notice.

The SYBSA and the City of Spencer Parks Department say they continue to follow guidelines set forth by Center for Disease Control, Governor Reynolds, and the Iowa Department of Public Health regarding public recreation opportunities, and the closures are in response to those recommendations.

There will be signage to warn residents of these closures.

Officials say they understand these closures pose an inconvenience for residents and their families.  But they say, it is a priority to keep everyone safe by following proper guidelines and recommendations and encourage people to stay home and limit social interactions as much as possible.

The Spencer Parks Department says they will continue to keep the park open spaces and trails operational at this time for biking, walking, and jogging. While using the trails and opens spaces, they recommend following social distancing and personal hygiene guidelines.
