(Mankato, Mn.)– Motorists on Highway 71 in Jackson and Cottonwood counties can expect some longer commutes beginning later this spring and continuing through the summer.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced this week over 20 miles of Highway 71 in the two counties will be re-surfaced, from just south of the intersection with County Road 38 south of Jackson to Highway 60 at Windom. Some guardrail will also be replaced, along with a large culvert north of Jackson. MnDOT says that part of the project will require a detour. Construction is scheduled to take place from May through August.
Another 12 mile stretch of Highway 71 from north of Highway 60 in Windom to Highway 30 will also be re-surfaced this summer, in addition to some culvert work that will be going on in that area.
MnDOT says replacement of the Clear Lake and Des Moines Rest Areas on Interstate 90 near Jackson will also continue this spring and summer.
