City Of Spencer Closing Outdoor Recreational Facilities

April 02, 2020

(Spencer)– The city of Spencer has temporarily closed a number of outdoor recreational facilities due to COVID-19 concerns.

The closures affect Leach Park Campground, all park shelters, permanent restrooms, playgrounds and play equipment, the skate park, basketball courts and tennis courts. Signs will be posted in those areas.

In a statement, city officials say they understand the closures pose an inconvenience for the residents and their families, but they say the priority is to keep everyone safe by following the proper guidelines and recommendations from the Center for Disease Control, the Governor, and the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Officials with the city of Spencer say park open spaces and trails remain open as of now, but users should follow social distancing and personal hygiene guidelines.
