(Spirit Lake)-A new website is designed to help residents in the Iowa Great Lakes during the coronavirus pandemic, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
Efforts are underway locally to assist residents in the Iowa Great Lakes during the COVID-19 crisis.
Brandon Rohrig, Director of Population and Public Health with Dickinson County Public Health explains. “We usually have our Hunger Coalition meeting, and we were talking about different ways to benefit and help the community, and we’re always trying to do better with coordinating efforts, and then, Michael Gewecke, a Pastor from a local church also reached out to me, that he was building a website to help with the coronavirus response. So, putting two and two together, we switched one of our Hunger Coalition meetings and just had it to discuss what would it look like if we could coordinate tiers and people’s needs through that website, as we were seeing a lot of different people trying to help others. How could we better coordinate that to truly help everyone that could possibly be in need.”
He notes that volunteers can help with a number of services. “Especially in this time of social distancing and social isolation, one of the things that some of the volunteers can do is just call to talk with people. We can help drop off food from pantries. We can help pick up groceries, as well as doing pharmacy orders.”
