(Spirit Lake)– Slick roads again caused headaches for area motorists late Monday afternoon.
Wet road surfaces from rain that fell earlier in the day quickly turned to ice as temperatures dropped. A light dusting of snow fell on top of the ice, compounding matters.
The icy roads took many motorists off guard, resulting in another round of accidents. A section of Highway 9 from just west of Highway 86 to the Montgomery turnoff was shut down for awhile late in the afternoon when a semi jackknifed on the ice-covered road.
Things will be quieter in the weather department over the next couple of days, with arctic air once again making its way into the region.
