Former Letter Carrier Pleads Guilty To Theft Of Mail By A Postal Employee

(Sioux City)– A former mail carrier in Pocahontas has pled guilty to a federal charge of theft of mail by a postal employee.

The U-S Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 30-year-old Cassandra Rheuport entered the plea last week in federal court in Sioux City.

Prosecutors say Rheuport admitted to stealing atleast $395 along with narcotic medications from mail that was entrusted to her as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service. They say the incidents took place from about February, 2018 through July 28th, 2018 while Rheuport was a city letter carrier assigned to the Pocahontas Post Office.

Rheuport is free on bond pending sentencing. She faces up to five years in jail without the possibility of parole along with a $250,000 fine and supervised release of up to one year following any imprisonment.
