A Number Of Dickinson County Cities & School Boards Will Have Contested Races In November 5th Election

(Spirit Lake)– The filing period for city and school elections to be held November 5th expired at 5:00 pm this past Friday.

As far as city elections in Dickinson county, there are no contested races in Arnolds Park, Orleans, Superior, Wahpeton, and West Okoboji.

In Lake Park, Incumbent Mayor John Engel is being challenged by Matt Carstensen. For city council, three people are running for two seats including incumbents Arthur Schumacher and Gary Taber, along with Justin Kracht.

In Milford, Incumbent Mayor Steve Anderson was the only to file. Three people are running for two seats on the city council including Aaron Gebhart, Barrett Dodd and Jason Eckard.

There’s a race for Mayor in Okoboji where incumbent Mary Vanderwoude is being challenged by Neil Slater. Incumbents Jim Delperdang and Jim Hentges were the only ones to file for their respective seats on the city council.

Six people are running for three seats on the Spirit Lake City Council. Incumbents Kevin Bice and Jerry Harbst are being challenged by Keith Brockmeyer, Dennis Gerald Marshall, John Chappas and James Staver.

In Terril, Mollie Petersen and Julie Thiesen are running for Mayor while Marc Haffner, Morgan Nelson, Jonathan Moritz and Joshua Link are seeking election to three seats on the city council.

For school board elections, in the Harris-Lake Park district incumbent Douglas Stahly is being challenged for his district 1 seat by Jared Rahe while incumbent Evan Bensley faces a challenge from Lisa Taber Carstensen for the District 5 seat.

The Okoboji school board will have three new faces on it. Tracy Evans, John Klopstad and Jon Pausley filed for the three open seats.

There’s no contested race in Spirit Lake for the three seats up for election with Teresa Beck, Sonja Hamm and Greta Gruys the announced candidates.

There’s also no contested race for school board in the Graettinger-Terril district.
