(Undated)– Students can earn money for school in the form of scholarships by hosting a blood drive through LifeServe Blood Center. Tim Paluch, PR and Marketing Director with LifeServe says that they see a decline in blood donations during the summer months so they are trying to combat that with these scholarships…
“One of the things we started a few years ago was offering high school and college students a chance to get up to five hundred dollars in scholarship funds if they host and recruit their own blood drive. Now they can do that in their community. They can do that at their high school or college. But if you know, if you’re willing to host a blood drive between Memorial Day and Labor Day, essentially, and it’s successful, you get donors to show up based on how many donors donate blood, you can get either two hundred and fifty dollars awarded or five hundred dollars ordered.”
Paluch says it helps to get students involved with blood drives…
“We see a spike in the summer in the number of student LED drives, which is great because then those students become really attached to the mission and they’re out talking in the community. And it really helps kind of especially with the younger generation, if you’re, you know, that personal contact with people, it’s a lot easier to get someone to come donate blood versus, you know, a cold call or an email or a text campaign.”
LifeServe will award up to $500 in scholarship funds to students who organize a successful blood drive. To be eligible students must recruit donors and act as the chairperson for the blood drive. For 25 donors the students will receive a $250 scholarship and for 40 donors they receive $500.
