(Des Moines)– A heat wave is expected to move into the region this weekend. Meteorologist Ashley Bury of the National Weather Service in Des Moines says hot temperatures and high humidity will arrive on Sunday and last throughout next week…
“Our highs each day all the way through much of the week including the 4th of July, specifically, mid to upper 90’s and the heat indices from Sunday around 100 or 105, even a little bit higher, maybe even some isolated 110 values.”
Bury says it will be important to avoid heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke…
“Make sure to not over-exert yourself in the outdoors, especially if you’re doing any specific strenuous activities, just take your time, stay hydrated and definitely take breaks.”
Forecasters say the hot weather will likely linger through the 4th of July.
