(Sioux Falls, S.D.)– The doppler radar at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls is offline for maintenance and will remain that way for the next week.
Todd Heitkamp, meteorologist in charge, says the work includes painting and the installation of a new protective cover on the radar. He says it’s work that can’t be done during the cold winter months.
Heitkamp says they’re relying on neighboring radars from National Weather Service Offices in Omaha, Des Moines, and Chanhassen, Minnesota while the Sioux Falls radar is down.
Fortunately the probability for severe weather in coming days appears to be minimal.
