(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council earlier this week heard an update from the Long Term Recovery group. Megan Hanges says they recently distributed 125 new mattresses to flood victims donated by a manufacturer in Arizona. Hanges adds outside groups are continuing to assist flood victims with home repairs…
“We currently have a team in town working on five home repair projects right now. These are homes that have drywall work, some framing, shower repair, things like that in a flood affected home. Also continuing to support those other homes that have already been completed over the next two months. We’re expecting around sixty volunteers from Arizona, Wisconsin and other states. They are coming in to assist with different kinds of repair work that we have scheduled. We also received a ten thousand dollars donation from the Clay County Community Foundation. That’s going to help us to strengthen our recovery efforts and allow us to provide funding to homeowners that don’t have funding otherwise or have exceeded the funds that have been given to them through FEMA and grants and loans and things like that.”
She added they’re working with Mennonite District Services for a possible national project that would bring about 200 volunteers and resources to the Spencer community.
Hanges says they also continue to work with state funded disaster case advocates and with Convoy of Hope and Clay County EMA to distribute emergency preparedness kits. She adds they will also be contacting FEMA-registered flood victims to check on unmet needs.
