Lueders Ridiculous Christmas Lights Back For Another Holiday Season

December 06, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Lake Park)– It’s a display of Christmas lights even Clark Griswold would be envious of. Lueders Ridiculous Christmas Lights can be found at 1078 110th Street northwest of Lake Park. Roxy Lueders says it started years ago with just a few strings of lights on their house and has snowballed since then. As of a couple of years ago she says they had more than 250,000 lights and that it’s grown even more since then. She this past year alone they’ve added four more attractions to the display..

“Cousin Eddy’s standing in the front yard this year, he’s new this year. We have a couple of other new things to the east of the house up our hill, we have a hill that comes up to our house and there’s a couple of snowmobile sculptures up there.”

Lueders says setting up the display is about a month long process…

“We started this year I think the weekend before Halloween. We try to do it in warm weather. It’s a little easier if we’re handling extension cords without gloves on. It takes us about a month set up from the time we start.”

Lueders notes Santa Clause will be making a special appearance tomorrow (Sat.) evening…

“He’s going to be here to visit with the kids from 5:30 to 7:00 and him and his helpers will have goody bags for the kids and candy canes for everybody. He stands at the end of our driveway so all you have to do is pull up in your vehicle and he’ll sit right there and talk to the kids in the vehicle so they don’t have to get out in the cold.”

And while there’s no charge to view the display, Lueders says they are once again taking a freewill donation this year…

“All donations that are brought in go back to veteran’s needs. Usually we purchase stuff for the V-A Hospital in Sioux Falls that they are asking for.”

Lueders Ridiculous Christmas Lights can be viewed from 5:30 until 10:00 pm Monday through Thursday and from 5:30 pm until 10:30 pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday through New Year’s Eve.
