(Arnolds Park)– This Saturday, November 30th, is Small Business Saturday. Blain Andera, President and CEO of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce emphasizes the importance of shopping local, especially this time of the year…
“It’s really the backbone of our community. You know the small businesses, the local businesses, those are the folks that are, you know, supporting the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts, they’re the ones that are sponsoring the events and the youth athletics and things like that, so. In this day and age, gosh it’s so easy to get online and order something, but if you take the time, stop in the local stores, visit with those folks, chances are they can get it for you or they’ll help you out. It’s really just important, Steve, to shop local and support the local businesses, especially this time of year.”
Andera says that support helps the entire community…
“Every dollar that’s spent locally turns over seven times in your community, so, you know, those brick and mortar businesses are the ones that are paying property taxes and paying the employees that can then go to the restaurants and eat and support other businesses in the community, so. It’s just super important to shop local and support local businesses. And again, especially this time of year. We take them for granted in the summertime because the tourists come and there’s so many people here, but this is the time of year really where our local businesses would appreciate your support.”
