Patrons Of Okoboji Comm. School District Urged To Attend Public Input Session

November 19, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– Another reminder of a public input session the Okoboji Community School District will be holding Wednesday evening. Superintendent Todd Abrahamson says the session, known as a “guided charette”, is intended to gather public input into the design of the new elementary school and improvements at the high school. Voters approved a $69 million bond issue earlier this month to fund the projects. Abrahamson says representatives of Co-Op, the architectural firm overseeing the designs, will be leading tomorrow (Wed.) evening’s session…

“Such as floor plan options that they’ll go through, reviewing the concept, and then they’ll move to discuss questions, what the community thinks is working, not working about the existing building so they can put those concepts into the design. They’ll take a look at different styles of buildings and describe what they look like and don’t look like. They use a process called the menti-meter. This will be a first for me through this. As I mentioned before, every architectural firm kind of does their charette process a little different but this is an online survey type of site where the results will be shared on the screen and people answer questions on their phone, via their phone. So this exercise aims to understand what’s essential to the people of our community such as outdoor spaces, natural light, etcetera. And then they’ll do that same process for the high school as well the second hour.”

Abrahamson says there will also be some virtual renditions of the projects the public will be able to interact with and provide input…

“And the goal of that exercise will be to find out aside from what the necessary classroom space is, where would be the next place in the new elementary building where you would put your money, and then Co-Op will have examples to choose from. It’s kind of an interactive exercise to get this input but then also to see to date where the process has been. Looking forward to the opportunity and for our community as well.”

The charette will be held tomorrow (Wed.) evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm in the commons area at Okoboji High School.
