(Spirit Lake)– National 4-H Week gets underway this Sunday, October 6th, and runs through Saturday, October 12th. Noel Peterson, Youth Coordinator with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Dickinson County says this year’s theme is “Beyond Ready”. She says special activities will be held each day throughout the week…
“4-H Week will start out on Sunday, it’s Share The Fun Sunday and we ask that 4-H members invite one person to their next club meeting. Monday is Pop Into National 4-H Week, so we want everybody to come on in, pop into the ISU office for some popcorn and some 4-H bling to wear for the rest of the week. Tuesday is 4-H Giving Day. We’re going to have individuals whenever they want to stop by the extension office and make their own 4-H buttons. We’ve got fridge magnets or key chains to give to a friend. Wednesday is Wear Green Wednesday so we’re asking everybody to wear their 4-H shirts to school. Thursday is Throwback Thursday, so we’re asking individuals to show photos on our Dickinson County 4-H Facebook page of throwback things they’ve done for fair or project areas. Even our adult volunteers, if they have got some pictures of things they used to do when they were in high school, it would be great to have them show us some throwbacks of what possibly 4-H used to look like.”
Peterson says special events are also planned for Friday and Saturday, October 11th and 12th…
“We’re asking individuals to share with us what sparks their passion in 4-H and that would also be something we ask them to share with the Dickinson County 4-H Facebook page. And then Saturday is Smile Saturday. We ask everybody to give out 4-H stickers to everybody you see smiling and we’ll have those stickers here in the office during our regular business hours Monday through Thursday.”
She says area businesses are also observing 4-H Week by participating in a scarecrow contest. More information about 4-H is available by contacting your local ISU Extension and Outreach office.
