(Spencer)– A special event this weekend in Spencer is intended to raise awareness of breast cancer and the importance of screenings. JaMae Dau a registered mammographer at Spencer Hospital, says they’ll be holding their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk this Sunday, October 6th…
“We’ll gather in the beautiful park in front of the hospital on Grand Avenue. Registration will kick off at 2:30 and while people gather there will be fun activities such as a selfie station, kids activities and informational booths.”
Dau says there will be a short program at 3:00 pm…
“Which will highlight Spencer Hospital’s women’s health services including our breast health clinical navigators and advance mammography and ultrasound technology. We’ll also recognize our survivors and take a moment to honor those we’ve lost to breast cancer, then we’ll walk through downtown Spencer.”
Dau says this marks the 20th year for the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk…
“Spencer Hospital wanted to raise awareness about breast cancer by emphasizing prevention through life style changes and local resources for detection and treatment. One in eight women in the U.S. is at risk for breast cancer and men can be affected, too. So it’s crucial to highlight the importance of healthy choices such as walking and getting regular screenings for early detection. This walk is about showing support for those facing a diagnosis and celebrating survivors. It’s entirely free to attend. We encourage everyone to join us for a quick but meaningful experience. Although we officially call it the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, we sometimes refer to it as The Pink Walk. So wear your pink to help raise awareness. We’ll provide a free pink t-shirt with our classic design for participants, but feel free to wear one from the previous years if you have it.”
