Ribbon Cutting Held On Aspen Seemann Memorial Park In Spirit Lake

June 06, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A ribbon cutting ceremony was held this afternoon on a new community park in Spirit Lake. Aspen Seemann Memorial Park is located just south of the Spirit Lake High School. The Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis Club and its foundation spearheaded the $3.4 million project which includes the playground itself, a renovated parking lot, signage, and a new entryway.

John Hight, President of the Spirit Lake Kiwanis Foundation, says the new park was a community effort. He says the play components were designed to be all-inclusive…

Your typical park you go up the stairs, you go down the slide. These particular structures in this park provide a lot more play value in the sense they can be played with in a hundred different ways, so there’s no organized sense in which that happens. Accessibility was big for us, we want to make sure kids are able to play together as part of that park, and the community outreach. We wanted a showcase, a beautiful center piece and kind of a crown to this little area here. The Little League’s done a lot of work out here as well, in tandem. So we really feel like we have a really good community park here.”

Hight says the Spirit Lake Kiwanis Foundation is a 501C3 organization through which donations can be funneled for various projects…

“We’re essentially the 501c3 arm of the club that allows us to do some bigger stuff and donate and do those sort of things. We’re always looking to do service oriented projects whether that be labor, fundraising for kids things. Some of the things that we give to are like library books.”

The new park was made possible through a major contribution and fundraising by the Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis Foundation.
