(Des Moines)– Milford Municipal Utilities has been awarded $500,000 through a state program to help with the construction of a new water treatment plant. The project has a total estimated cost of a little more than $29 million.
The funding is through the Wastewater and Drinking Water Treatment Financial Assistance Program. 48 applications totaling nearly $26 million were received for this round of grants. A committee consisting of designees from the Iowa Finance Authority, Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship judged the applications based on the program’s priorities. The program is funded through a tax on metered water.
Algona, Mallard and Swea City will also receive $500,000 each through the same program for drinking water and water quality projects
