Emmet County Seeking Input On Hazard Mitigation Plan

February 23, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Estherville)– Emmet county is seeking public comment on an updated hazard mitigation plan.

Emergency Management Coordinator Travis Sheridan says it addresses responses to disasters such as floods, tornadoes, winter storms, hazardous materials incidents and other hazards. He says the plan assesses the risks posed and identifies ways to reduce them. Sheridan says having such a plan in place allows each participating entity to apply for mitigation grant funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Sheridan says Emmet county’s plan was put together over the past 10 months with the assistance of a consultant.

Comments on the plan are being taken until March 8th.

The draft plan can be accessed at the Emmet County Emergency Management website:https://emmetcounty.iowa.gov/emergency-management/

An online form to provide feedback on the plan can be accessed here: https://forms.office.com/e/e6bxCQeFnr

The final plan will be adopted by the county and each participating municipality before it becomes official.
