(Undated)– Work continues on a couple of major road projects in the area. Dakin Schultz of the Iowa Department of Transportation’s regional office in Sioux City says in spite of the colder weather, the contractor on the Highway 71 project through the lakes corridor continue to make progress…
“All of the main lines and side roads paving is complete. The contractor is continuing to work on the causeway barrier rail. They’ve got the sidewalk to complete yet, they’ve got driveways, the pavers between the roadway and sidewalk needs to be done. They’re working on the sprinkler system. They’ve got signals, lights and interconnect yet to complete. They had some pavement that was water damaged. That’s been removed and replaced and then they’ve got some grinding as well.”
Schultz says the contractor plans to continue to work until Thanksgiving, weather permitting. He says the work will then resume in the spring once the weather allows…
“As far as spring work we’re imagining they’ll want to work on intersection work in the Arnolds Park area, similar to what they did last year, and then probably be working north of Sanborn in Okoboji. We’re still waiting for an updated schedule from the contractor for the spring.”

“They are still working on Iowa 4 north of Iowa 9, so that urban section up through the community. They’ve got some storm sewer work yet then they’ve got the pavement, curb and gutter to complete as well. We’re hoping to see the pavement get in this year before winter shutdown.”
Highway 9 on the west side of Estherville had also been closed the past several months for construction. That has since re-opened to traffic.
