(Spirit Lake)– A ceremony was held this (Fri.) morning dedicating a Blue Star marker at the Highways 9 and 71 junction in Spirit Lake, paying special honor to veterans. Among those speaking at the event was Mayor Bruce Keenan…
“We echo the sentiments of the Blue Star Program to recognize the commitment they have made to the armed forces and supporting our individual freedoms as all Americans. This plaque and one at Memorial Park are naming the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the National Garden Club sponsored by the city of Spirit Lake, will stand in honor of all veterans not forgotten but always appreciated for their service to our citizens, our community, our state and our country. And we humbly appreciate the services that you have given us as veterans.”
Marian McNab of Sioux Rapids was also on hand. She oversees the Blue Star Marker program locally…
“We in Iowa really love our veterans. This is the beginning of Blue Star Markers for Dickinson county. I know Wahpeton has ordered one and so has Terril. So two more in the works and so we have seven more towns in the county to go.”
She says the goal remains to get a marker in each city which would then make Dickinson County a Blue Star Marker County, joining Clay county which has already obtained the status.
