(Okoboji)– Dial M For Murder is the title of the next production of the season at Okoboji Summer Theatre. It opens Tuesday evening and Director Fred Rubek tells us it isn’t your ordinary murder/mystery…
“Usually in a murder mystery like Agatha Christie there’s a murder but we have no idea who did it. The audience, when they come to this one, they’ll know pretty early on who did it and it’s about watching the whole thing unwind and see if they get away with it.”
Actor Rob Doyen plays the part of the inspector…
“It’s like an intricate chess game and I ask the questions, and I ask a lot of questions and they maneuver and it’s like who’s going to get caught in the trap. It’s Perry Mason and Ironsides and Law And Order all put together, you know. It’s a great who done it. It’s fascinating about how clever people can be to half truths and sort of truths. And then when you ask them a question that gets them sort of into the trap, they find a way out of that trap pretty quickly. It’s fascinating to watch. As Fred said, the audience knows, so they know when they’re confiscating and how they’re going to cover that and how is the inspector going to get passed that, on to the truth of the matter. It’s a fascinating chess game until somebody finally says aha, checkmate.”
Rubek says the play was written in the early 1950’s and became an Alfred Hitchcock production.
