(Undated)– Another heat advisory will be in effect for the region today, but some relief is in site. The advisory goes into effect at 1:00 pm and runs until 8:00 pm this (Thurs.) evening. The National Weather Services says the combination of heat and humidity will make it feel like 105 degrees at times later this (Thurs.) afternoon and into the early evening.
Health experts say it’s important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluids and to stay in an air-conditioned environment. Those involved in outdoor activities should take frequent breaks. Health experts say it’s also a good idea to periodically check on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly, and to immediately seek treatment for anyone exhibiting signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
The extreme heat has resulted in a couple of events scheduled for downtown Spirit Lake this evening being called off. “A Stroll Back in Time” sponsored by the Dickinson County Historical Society has been postponed to a date to be announced, and the “Makers Market” on Hill Avenue has been cancelled for this (Thurs.) evening.
The National Weather Service says cooler temperatures and lower humidity should move into the region over the upcoming weekend.
