(Spencer)– More heat and humidity is in the forecast and with that comes a reminder to take some extra precautions with pets. Jen Johnson Ross is an animal advocate with People For Pets…
“Make sure your animals have plenty of shade and fresh water and if you are going to exercise them, to it early in the morning before those temperatures soar or in the evening. Also be aware concrete and asphalt get pretty hot when the temperatures are on the rise and their paws are very delicate and those paw pads can burn very easily.”
She offers this advice if you’re going to have your pet with you in your vehicle…
“When you’re taking them for a ride in the car make sure that air conditioner is on and you don’t leave them in the car unattended and certainly not with the windows rolled up and with the engine off.”
Animals, like humans, are susceptible, even more so, to heat-related illness.
