(Sheldon)– Multiple injuries were reported when a car collided with the rear of a hay rack near the intersection of Highway 18 and Nettle Avenue Friday night near Sheldon.
An accident report from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Drew Haack of Hospers was driving a 2005 GMC pickup pulling a rack loaded with round hay bales eastbound on Highway 18, and was traveling partially on the shoulder. The report states the hay rack wasn’t equipped with lights or reflective material, and the lights on the truck weren’t visible because the bales were wider than the vehicle. It goes on to say that 21-year-old Issac Visser of Sanborn was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, also eastbound, when he collided with the rear of the hay rack.
Visser and passenger in his vehicle, 18-year-old Madalyn Lorenz of Everly, were taken to the Sheldon hospital with minor injuries.
Visser was cited for following too closely and a passenger in his vehicle was cited for not wearing a seatbelt. Haack was cited for improper rear lamps and failure to display a reflective device on slow moving equipment.
The collision took place around 9:50 pm.
