Premier Communications Expanding Services To Spirit Lake

April 21, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux Center)– A Sioux Center-based communications company is expanding its services to Spirit Lake. Ryan Boone, CEO of Premier Communications, tells KUOO news they will soon be constructing a “fiber to the premises” project in the city. Boone says the company already has a presence in the lakes area and this will build upon that…

“Right now we have about three and a half million dollars of investment in that area and it’s been primarily focused on the commercial, the business side of things.”

Boone says the expansion represents a significant investment in the area…

“It’s going to be a multi-year investment. About $15 million depending where inflation goes over the next year or two. But we’ve lined up contractors already, we have all the materials we need on hand for this year’s construction and already ordering material for next year.”

Boone says construction will start in June or July…

“We’ll be constructing this year’s project until it freezes and that’s when a lot of the, you’ll see a lot in the community in terms of construction equipment, and then we have to go through a process where we actually connect all the fiber together and bring it back to our offices, and that kind of happens in the fall, through the end of the year, and we would hope we would start hooking up our first customers by the end of this year or early in 2023, and then we would have another full construction year in 2023. So our plan right now is to start on the north end of Spirit Lake, or the city limits, and work our south and we’ll get as far as we can this year as far as construction will allow us and the weather holds up, and then next year we’ll pick up where we left off and continue heading south.”

Boone says in addition to extremely high speed internet, they’ll also be offering digital voice and television services. Boone adds Premier Communications is excited to grow their presence in the lakes region.
