Hellenga declined to comment on what it was that led up to his decision to withdraw the rezoning request. The matter was on the agenda Monday evening for possible action by the city council.
The proposed rezoning drew opposition from residents living in the area of the proposed development at a public hearing last month. They expressed concern over population density, traffic, and possible environmental impacts on Silver Lake. Proponents argued it would boost Lake Park’s economy. Hellenga was proposing a development that would have included 63 cabins.
Meanwhile, a member of the Silver Lake Improvement Association, Herb Stewart, presented the Lake Park City Council with some lakeshore development ordinances from several cities in the lakes corridor, requesting the city of Lake Park consider adopting something similar…
Mayor Matt Carstensen told Stewart the council will review the material and look into the matter.
