Results in contested races in city elections Tuesday in Dickinson county: For Mayor in West Okoboji, incumbent Barb Lynch was defeated by challenger Craig Miner. Miner received 68 votes while Lynch had 28.
In Milford, no one filed for Mayor, however incumbent Steve Anderson had indicated he would accept the position again if he receives the most write-ins. According to the Dickinson County Auditor’s Office, unofficial results show Anderson with 83 votes, making him the apparent winner. Mayoral seats in Arnolds Park, Okoboji, Orleans, Spirit Lake, Superior, Terril and Wahpeton were uncontested.
There were three seats on the ballot for city council in Okoboji with four people running. Elected to those seats were Dan Sanders with 158 votes; Julie Andres, an incumbent, with 142; and Walter Mendenhall, also an incumbent, with 130 votes. Kae Hoppe received 93 votes.
In Orleans, four people were running for three city council positions. Elected to those seats were Benjamin Radcliffe with 68 votes; Keith Ostrum with 62 and Stanley Gable with 61 votes. Eric Anderson received 49 votes.
Four people were running for three seats on the Superior City Council. Elected were Mark Campbell with 10 votes; Debra Coleman with 10 votes and Michael Smith with 8. Jacob Hathcock-Shetler received 0.
In Terril, three people were running for two city council positions. The winners were Austin Fairchild with 56 votes and Jeri Nissen with 51. Scot Matthews received 26 votes.
In West Okoboji, two seats were on the ballot with four people running. Elected to those positions were Mike Paxton with 73 votes and Darlene Powers with 46. Robert Hein received 34 votes and Kristopher Kneen received 19.
In Spencer, Brian Balk was elected to an at-large seat on the city council, narrowly defeating incumbent George Moriarty. Unofficial results show Balk with 594 votes and Moriarty with 587. Other candidates who were seeking the position included Jacquelyn Johnson with 430 votes and Deborah Burow with 263.
There was one contested school board race in the area. For the district 4 seat on the Harris-Lake Park School Board, Lisa Taber Carstensen was the winner with 107 votes. Jeffrey Jacobsma received 64.
