Spencer City Council Talks Street Re-Surfacing Projects; Hears Numbers On Residential Building Permits

(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council Monday evening was updated on some street re-surfacing projects and voted to add a portion of 2nd Avenue West between West 3rd Street and West 4th Street. An engineer told the council it makes sense to add that work for one reason in particular…
“We had real favorable bids on the project so we’ve got some budget left and that street’s in pretty poor shape. We’re right there working so it made sense to pick up that block while they’re doing the rest of it.”
Work on the various re-surfacing projects should soon be entering the home phase…
“They hope to have all the surfacing done this week. That’s the hope. But I think the reality is it will bleed into next week. There’s some concrete work left to do and that will go on because those guys are a little slower, but the asphalt will be down, the street will be open, probably the middle of next week.”
In other business, Mayor Kevin Robinson gave a review of residential building permits issued in Spencer over the past 10 years…
“So in the last 10 years there’s been 404 living units new that came online for a total valuation of $51,949,500. And again, while we talk about the number of humans, at 92, I think it’s also good to talk about the health of the community and when we look regionally 404 new units coming online for 52 million new dollars of evaluation I think is an indicator of a healthy community.”
Robinson thanked those who made that possible adding it’s important the city continue with that trend.
