Flags In Iowa Being Flown At Half Staff To Pay Respect To A Fallen Soldier From NW Iowa Whose Remains Were Recently Identified

(George)– Flags are being flown at half-staff on this flag day across Iowa to pay respect to a fallen soldier from northwest Iowa who died in the Korean war. His remains were just recently identified.

Army Corporal Eldert J. Beek of Sibley was recently identified among remains of fallen American Soldiers in 55 boxes that were returned to the U.S from North Korea in 2018.

Beek was 20-years-old when the unit he was serving with was attacked on December 1st, 1950. He was killed in action.

Beek was laid to rest this (Morning) at a cemetery in George, with the Iowa National Guard providing military honors.
