(Spencer)– The city of Spencer is reminding residents of an ordinance that prohibits the placement of signs on public right-of-way. Planning Director Alek Schulz says that’s been somewhat of an issue this spring.
Schulz is also reminding property owners that you may want to get that lawn mowed if you haven’t done that yet this spring…
“Grass and trees keep growing. Residents are responsible to keep their grass mowed and any abutting public right-of-way to be mowed as well. The ordinance states the grass shall be kept under eight inches long and trees that overhang the streets, sidewalks, alleys and other public property, that are abutting the public property, are the owner’s responsibility and must be trimmed to allow 14 feet of clearance.”
On another matter, Schulz says this spring has been a busy one when it comes to the number of permits his office is issuing…
“We’ve had seven plumbing permits in the past month go through, five electric permits and 41 building permits including everything from signs to new construction, so progress keeps moving forward in the city of Spencer. Other things that we’ve been working on the past month are sidewalk cafes. Those are going to be coming out now that the weather is getting nicer and we want to remind folks that we are working with businesses to make sure they’re safe for everyone.”
Schulz gave his update at this week’s City Council meeting.
