(Okoboji)– A lakes area resident who has returned to the area for the season is taking the advice of local health officials by quarantining for 14 days. Clare Wynne returned to the Iowa Great Lakes after spending the winter in the Virgin Islands. She tells KUOO news what she witnessed while going through some airports is proof positive as to why it’s important for those coming back to quarantine…
“As we were coming through the employees were not wearing masks. In one of the airports they were completely oblivious to any sort of social distancing. At the food counters nobody was really standing behind any tapes or six feet of distancing. And I got back here and I thought wow, my neighbors just think I’m super unfriendly because I’m not coming out of my house. We did have someone stock our home with groceries. We gave them a list, they were wonderful they did that. And people are just chipping in to make sure that we don’t come anywhere near them.”
Wynne says that gave her an idea…
“I’m fortunate that I have access to a very good graphic artist and we are printing lawn signs, like signs you would see for garage sales, with the icon, the little face you see like on Skype, with a mask on his face with his thumbs up that says I am quarantining on one side for my friends and neighbors, and on the other side it says coronavirus quarantine, quarantining because we love our fellow ‘bojians.”
Wynne says she expects a shipment of the signs and window stickers to arrive sometime next week and will make them available at that point. She says she’ll make the first 100 signs along with the first 200 window stickers available free of charge. After that Wynne says she’ll sell them at cost.
The signs and window stickers can be obtained by contacting Wynne at 972-523-1880 or by email: clarewynne20@gmail.com.
