(Johnston)– The Iowa Department of Public Health reported this (Wed.) morning an additional 96 cases of COVID-19 in the state, bringing the total number of positive cases to 1,995.
The department also announced today (Wed.) four more people in Iowa have died of the virus, bringing the total number of deaths so far to 53. The latest deaths include two elderly people over 80 years-old with one each from Polk and Clayton counties. The other two deaths involved older adults between the ages of 61 and 80. One of those was in Johnson county while the other was in Allamakee county.
It was also announced that as of today (Wed.), 908 cases had recovered.
There have been 19,869 tests as of today, with 17,874 of those being negative for the virus.
At her press conference this (Wed.) morning, Governor Kim Reynolds again commented on the process of re-opening atleast portions of the state’s economy and the metrics that will be used to do that…
“You know, we want to get things up and going. We have to do it responsibility. We have to be cautious in how we do that because we don’t want to just flip the light switch and then, you know, have another spike happen in a week. That’s not going to be beneficial for anybody. We don’t want to open things up only to say in a week we gotta shut it back down. And so we have to be strategic and thoughtful and responsible in how we do that and as I have done with everything. Or there might be areas that I need to, you know, really take a look at, some of our hot spots, to see if there’s additional things we need to do there.”
The Governor again today (Wed.) didn’t mention a possible time frame, adding she’s in the process of putting together an “Economic Recovery Task Force” that would assist in the process.
