Number Of New COVID-19 Cases In Iowa Soars

(Des Moines)– The number of new cases of COVID-19 in Iowa has soared. The Iowa Department of Public Health reported an additional 189 positive cases as of this (Tues.) morning. “As you are aware of a Tyson plant in Louisa county has experienced an outbreak of COVID-19 among its employees and public health has been working closely with management at the plant to test their staff. Yesterday the state Hygienic Lab confirmed an additional 86 positive cases related to the outbreak at the facility. So of today’s total, 189 positive cases, 86 of those are related to the Tyson outbreak.”

The Department of Health also announced today (Tues.) there were outbreaks at three additional long term care facilities. None of those are in northwest Iowa.

Latest numbers also show 163 Iowans were hospitalized with COVID-19 as of last (Mon.) evening.

There were also six new deaths from the virus reported in Iowa as of this morning, bringing the state’s total number of fatalities since the outbreak began to 49.

The department says 790 Iowans have recovered from the virus.
