Major Upgrade Planned For Florence Park Shelter House In Milford

January 30, 2020

(Milford)– Plans are moving forward for a major improvement to the shelter house at Florence Park in Milford. Mayor Steve Anderson updated the city council earlier this week on plans to expand the facility…Shelter House Project01

“So the plan is to put in a kitchen area. We may have someone donate some cabinetry to put inside it if we get this thing to go, and then we’ve got the stuff from the Commercial Club, the Parks Board.”

Total cost of the project, which would include re-roofing the older portion of the shelter, extending water and sewer service and upgrading the electrical service was put at $110,000. Anderson reported the Milford Commercial Club has raised $46,000 of the cost, while the city has budgeted $15,000 for the project. That would leave roughly another $49,000 that would be needed. The council voted Monday in favor of the city covering that in the interim while fundraising and grant seeking continues. Councilman Chris Hinshaw said having the project underway would also increase the possibility of grants being awarded…Shelter House Project02

“Some of the grants is that if you’re in the middle of a project and you need help, they’d rather see you in the middle of the project than not starting it at all.”

Plans call for the project to be completed in time for the upcoming Pioneer Days celebration in late July.
